Jewellery House is an independent company established in 1993 and is based in West Wales. We specialise in gold and silver jewellery with Welsh and Celtic connections. This includes the Clogau gold and Cymru-Metal ranges which both contain a small amount of rare Welsh gold.
It is known that in Roman times Welsh gold was mined by hand from rock that lies in a band stretching from Barmouth, past Dolgellau and up towards Snowdonia.
Welsh gold forms in seams like coal, so in early times it could easily be extracted from the rock. It can yelds up to 30 ounces per ton, differing from South African gold which forms as fragmented deposits within the rock yeildling just a quarter of a ounce for every ton mined.
Gold jewellery like torc necklets and bangles were worn by early Welsh princes as a badge of rank and the tradition is echoed today with Welsh gold being used to make the wedding rings of a number of Royal brides. more about welsh gold...
